Fabric

My mother had a monogramming and embroidery business in our home as I was growing up. She taught me to sew and was always someone whose accomplishments, including having 10 children, I truly admired.

In high school I made a few outfits for myself. One was a colorful cotton robe that laced in front and had a hood. I liked to put iton at night and creep around my parents' big, woodsy backyard, pretending I was an elf. I made a tuxedo with lace-up boots and top hat from bluejean fabric. I also made a summer outfit with bluejean shorts to which I added a lace-up halter top and two macrameed straps down the back.

Having my own children was an opportunity to make clothes for them and, of course, Halloween made it necessary to fashion costumes. Even summer vacation by the lake became an opportunity to express myself in fabric and then there were school recitals. Even though my children are no longer children, two of them still rely on me to make their costumes for Halloween. I enjoy producing magical transformations through the use of fabric.
